This October, the credit union community is coming together for the 15th Annual CU Lunch Local—a celebration of the local businesses that help our communities thrive. Launched by MBC in 2012, CU Lunch Local encourages credit unions and their employees, leagues, CUSOs and industry partners to get out into their communities, support locally owned businesses and demonstrate the impact we can make when we choose local.

CU Lunch Local officially takes place Tuesday, October 13, but participants are encouraged to show their support throughout International Credit Union Week.

This year, join MBC and credit union organizations across the country and make your local support count!


What Is CU Lunch Local?

CU Lunch Local is a simple idea with a big impact: credit unions and credit union organizations supporting the local businesses that strengthen the communities we all serve. Each year during International Credit Union Week, participants across Michigan and beyond support locally owned restaurants, shop with neighborhood businesses, purchase staff gifts from local vendors or find another way to keep their dollars in the community.

What began as an MBC initiative in 2012 has grown into an annual tradition bringing credit unions, leagues, CUSOs and industry partners together around a shared commitment to supporting local businesses. In 2026, we’re proud to celebrate 15 years of eating local, shopping local and making a difference locally.

How to Participate

Anytime throughout International Credit Union Week, order breakfast or lunch from a neighborhood favorite, organize a team outing, provide employees with a lunch allowance or reimbursement to spend locally, or purchase employee gifts, treats or supplies from a local business. You can also simply encourage employees to get out into their own communities, discover a local business and show their support.

Whether you participate as an organization, branch, department or individual—and whether it’s on October 13 or another day during the week—every local purchase helps make an impact.

Share Your CU Lunch Local Story

Part of the fun is seeing where CU Lunch Local participants across the country choose to go! Throughout International Credit Union Week, snap a photo of your team supporting a local business and share it on social media. Highlight the business you visited, tag them when possible and help spread the word about why supporting local matters.
